Firewire Port Not Working

Our firewire port seems to not be working. The firewire cable i bought works
on another computer, but when i plug it in to my computer, no "new hardware"
pops up. How can I fix this, someone please help.

Did it ever work??
Is the Computer case connection plugged into the Firewire header on the
motherboard??
If you right click MyComputer/properties/hardware/device manager......is
there a IEEE1394 listing?? are there any errors in the listing??

Are you sure ti's the firewire port and not the firewire device on the
other end? If it's the port, ti's just a matter of getting a firewire
pci card and putting it in.
