Recently, my HP Pavillion crashed and booted to the Non-
Destructive system restore, which says that it just
restores the system files. I followed the instructions,
and waited patiently. Before it could finish, it froze
up. I rebooted, and Windows wouldn't boot up. I booted
to the system recovery program and started over. It
finished, and I booted to the Windows XP setup. I
completed all of that stuff, and booted to Windows, only
to find that most of my software wouldn's work because
the registry was reset, and that some of my user files(in
my docs, etc.) were gone. I was able to find my user
files, but I can't find out if my registry files are
hidden away somewhere. Any help on this matter would be
greatly appreciated.

If the registry got replaced, you're going to have to reinstall your
programs. If there is a way to go back, perhaps HP might have some clue, as
it's their restore system and they're most likely to know if anything gets
backed up. But I wouldn't hold much hope on that.

I might be easier overall just to reinstall things. If you did succeed in
getting the old registry back, that might have been part of the problem to
begin with and you'd be starting the process over again.
