For some reason, even though "Start Windows Messenger when Windows starts" or
whatever is unchecked, and "Run in background" is unchecked, Windows
Messenger still launches, and doesn't even show up in the system tray. I only
noticed it was running when two people on my contact list messaged me,
surprised to see me online (?) as I almost NEVER log in to Messenger. I saw
no icon in the system tray, and clicked the expand arrow to make sure. After
finishing chatting, I opened Task Manager and ended the process. A couple of
hours later, another friend messaged me. After I was done talking... I opened
Task Manager, and ended Windows Messanger. I kept the Task Manager open after
doing this, and almost 30 seconds later, Messenger started up yet again.
To solve the problem. I terminated the Messenger and found and renamed it.
However, I don't like the fact that Messenger was starting up without my
wanting it to, and logging me in on top of that. Is there any other way to
fix this than what I did?
