THANK YOU, Linda for your post
I have learned at least two things from this experience.

1) I should load ONE update at a time and check its
performance before keeping.
2) GATEWAY support is non-support
I purchased a Gateway computer because I have here-to-for
built my own and I needed a solid unit with support
because I was tired of trying to tweak my own computers.
When this happened, I contacted Gateway ("Lifetime
support" with the computer) only to be send a [LONG]
canned message of how Gateway techs can't keep up with all
the software and how I should contact Microsoft (along
with other options INCLUDING buying further support from
Gateway(!!!). When I go to the Microsoft support, since
the OS number is an OEM it clearly tells me that
contractually the manufacturer (Gateway) is obligated to
support and won't let me post a question [although PAID
support is offered]. When I replied to the Gateway email
asking what I could do I got a DUPLICATE of the same
canned message.

I wonder if others have been displeased with this
as "service"

AGAIN - THANKS
BOB

Go Start|Run type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and hit
Enter. Uncheck the box which states "Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer". Now your computer should boot straight into
Windows as it did before the .NET update :-)
