cant get windows updates to download/install

When I access the windows update website and then I
choose scan my system, I get the updates that I need
listed.
I select add and install and even accept the agreements.
Then the little popup screen comes up saying 'preparing
to download and install' and it just freezes there.
I have a cable modem and they are usually quick. I have
left it on overnight and still no progress happens.
Any advice?! Thanks!

Go to your HOSTS file in Windows\System32 folder and open it with notepad.
If you see any listings for Windows Update or any listings for the file/s
you are trying to download and instatll, deleat these listings (entries).
Your download/update should install properly now.
