Hi Folks,

I am sure this has been asked many a time, but....

Over the weekend I have had to rebuilt my sytem,
including a complete reinstall of my licencsed copy of XP
Home edition. Obviously when I have reinstalled it I have
had the 30 day activation warning come up.

My question is, if I try reregistering this online, wont
the database already see that this is registered and not
let me dop it again? How can I reactivate my XP?

Please help.

Thanks

Simon.

When you need to re-activate a system and XP detects the license number has
been used before, you're simply given a phone number to ring and a code to
enter. You will then be given an authorisation code which will allow you to
activate your copy of Windows XP.

The system is normally automatic, but if you do have any problems you can be
put through to a human operator - if this happens they'll sort you out with
a code without any problems.

So, just re-activate your system and don't worry!

If you don't say what you mean,
Then how can you ever mean what you say?

It depends on how long it has been since you last activated XP. Chances
are you can reactivate automatically over the internet. If that fails,
use the option to activate by phone instead. You will be given a toll
free number to call where you can activate over the phone. Even the phone
systems are now automated. If the automated phone activation doesn't work
either you'll have the opportunity to speak to a service rep. Simply
explain that you had to rebuild your machine and you will be given a new
activation code.

You can reactivate on the same (or substantially the same) hardware as
many times as you like. I would not waste time on the 'registration'
side though, which is entirely voluntary and certainly does not need
doing more than once. Just get on the net, run Start - All Programs -
Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and take the 'activate on the net now' - it will take about 30 seconds.
