View Full Version : Dial-up connection hangs when "registering your computer on the network"

My dial-up connection hangs when it reaches the stage
of "registering your computer on the network". Hence, I
cannot connect my PC to the internet. I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling my modem, using the PC's own
test of the modem (this returns a status of "success"),
changing properties of the modem (such as speed), deleting
and recreating the dial-up connection. The connection used
to work just fine.

1. Yes - I've checked the other end and it works just fine.
2. Yes - the computer I am calling works OK
3. I cannot connect to any ISP - all the dial-up
connections that used to work now do not. Even using MS
own connection wizard does not allow me to connect to the
internet.
4. Yes - I am communicating with them, but they are fairly
slow in responding, so I figured I'd try here to try to
get a solution a.s.a.p.

Thanks,

Anthony

Yes - I dialed with another computer - a laptop running
Windows NT 4.0. I can't see anything different in the dial-
up connection or modem settings between the 2 computers.

My bad!

Yes, and the MS connection wizard. The former results in
the same hanging, the latter results in a message telling
me it was unable to connect to the internet using the dial-
up connection that the wizard built.

It's internal and it was there when I bought the machine
(new), so I guess it's a windows-only modem. I haven't
tried getting updated drivers. Where would I get these
from?

Thanks a lot for your help already!

That solved it!

I installed the same version of my modem driver files (no
later versions are out yet) and can now connect to the
internet.

Thanks a lot for your help!
