Icons/shortcuts

I keep shortcuts for my Zip and A drives on my desktop.
Suddenly neither of them work. I get a message saying that
they're both missing and I'm asked if I want to delete
them. I noticed that this happened immediately after I
downloaded a new Automatic Update from the Microsoft
website. If anybody has any info on how to remedy this, it
would be greatly appreciated.

When you click on these, does the flashlight icon show that it is
searching for the item referenced by the shortcut? IF so,then what you
are seeing is an artefact of one of the recent XP updates that broke
some shortcut. MS knows about this, but I have not seen any subsequent
release of whatever update it was that caused the problem.
