Every so often my system freezes at night or reboots. I
check the System Event Log and see the following
warning/error messages before the problem occurs.
1. I get one Warning message: "System memory is running
very low. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect may not be able
to function properly."
2. Then, about 4 minutes later, I get the Error
Message: "The server was unable to allocate from the
system paged pool because the pool was empty." I get 3 of
them about 1 minute apart.
3. Then about 2 hours later I get the Error Message: "The
DNS proxy agent was unable to read the local list of name-
resolution servers from the registry. The data is the
error code." I get four of these within 2 seconds. Then
there are no more messages and my scheduled maintenance
programs (such as backup) don't run, and the system has
locked or rebooted.
I am constanly connected to the internet with a cable
modem, firewalled with Zone Alarm. I am connected to 1
other desktop computer using ethernet NIC's and a
crossover cable. I'm using Norton AV 2003 Pro with the
latest updates. And I've got XP Pro withe latest updates.
The MS knowledge base has no info that I coud find on
these messages. Does anyone have a clue as to what may be
going on?
