I have a small business client who has quickly outgrown his "server" running
Win XP Pro (hitting the 10 user limit). Is it possible to upgrade directly
from XP to W2k3?

No - Win2k3 is an upgrade for Win2k Server, not WinXP Pro.

Windows server 2003 is a direct add-on to xp,actually most of the 03 tools
work in xp w/o the installation.

When are you ever going to get a clue--Server IS NOT an add-on!!!

No--you cannot upgrade from a Workstation OS to a Server OS

How did you manage to come up with this complete and utter nonsense?

Microsoft has *never* provided a supported upgrade path from its
workstation operating systems to its server operation systems. WinXP
and Win2K3 Server are no different.

Supported upgrade paths to server 2003. No version of XP is on it.

If you want to expiriment anyway, just make clone of the original XP
install, and play with the copy.

I looked at a few third party migration tools, but so far none of them
say they support 2k3.

Detto comes closest.
