I had some corrupted files in my WinXP Professional, So I
re-installed the WinXP Professional. In the process of up
grading my files I was also sent the W32.Blaster.worm. I
had just reinstalled my Norton SystemWorks2003 and was in
the process of up grading my sound board when Norton
alerts me to the fact that the blaster worm was detected
and deleted. I continued to up-grade the sound system
and just as I finished a notice appears that tells me the
computer is shutting down because of an over run and I
did not catch in what the over run was in. the computer
shuts down and reboots I also have AdAware installed so
as the computer reboots ad Aware alerts me to the fact
that there is something strange in my registery area and
that it has Quaranteed it. I now am in the process of
installing a new program when the computer gives me the
signal it is shutting down again because of the over run
and it does this, it also reboots and I am now thinking I
have the virus, so a virus check is started about 3/4
through the computer does its shut down and reboot. I get
another alert that the worm has been detected and
deleted. I go directly to Norton on line and start
getting the info on the Blaster worm and how I can get
rid of same. I re install the patch that has been
advertised so much( I had it installed when it first came
out)as Norton said that was one of the things I was going
to have to do in the way of cleaning up my computer I
also down loaded Removal tool and went through that. I
know this is a bit wordy, but here is the reason for all
of this, as I was going through the removal information I
came across this item "system restore" needs to be
disabled before running the removal tool I followed the
instructions and was un able to find the system restore
much less shut it down( I shoud state at this time that
my computer was a Gateway about4 years ago since then I
have up graded the chip and the operating system + the
sound board and speakers)back to my question how do I go
about getting into my system restore as the removal tool
has to scan that area and If I cannot locate it I can
only assume that the virus might be there. I go to start
right click my computer click on properties and I get
rundll32.exe windows\entry point not found. I go to start
programs accessaries system tools and click on system
restore and I get remoteassistancepreparesystemrestore
winsta.dll not found. How do I get system restore back
into my computer. When I ran the removal tool the results
were I do not have the W32.Blaster.worm...
