What? Did you really think MS's diagnostic tool for their WGA malware
would work any better than their WGA malware?

Why the hell are you spending your time troubleshooting MicroMalware to
begin with?

Change your Product Key without a Reinstall to match your
genuine Product Key or COA:

First, please verify if your COA sticker or product key (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx)
matches your Product Key being used on your system. You can
view your product key with the Genuine Advantage diagnostics tool
(at least the last 15 digits) located here:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall! http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50346&clcid=0x409

I think what happened is the WGA Tool is showing the Product Key
used to preinstalled Windows XP at the factory. This is a one time
Product Key used with your PC manufacturer's master image used
for Windows XP's factory installation. You have nothing to be
concerned with as your system is genuine.

Visit the Windows Update website and download all
the recommended critical updates and the security alert
in your notification tray will go away. You already
have a valid Windows XP license so I don't really
understand what your concern is.

problem solved.. I turned off security notifications.

My tray is cleared and I did not have to install the disk-wiping software for genuine checker.

Carey............

See your response below. However, my son bought a Dell w/ XP Home Edition
from the factory in 2003. I then had to reinstall XP (using the factory's
installation CDs) from scratch a couple of years ago for him, after which all
was terrific. Now he keeps getting the "may not have a genuine copy of
XP..." message. What are our options, and is this a common problem after XP
reinstalls?

To be sure, download the Windows Genuine Advantage diagnostics tool from
Microsoft, run it and check the report.

search for MGADiag.exe
