View Full Version : serious problem with Windows Installer

May 24th 06, 06:34 AM
I enumerate the whole issue:

I tried to install my Ipod

THEN I needed to install iTunes

THEN I failed to install it because it gave me installshield error 1607
(i've already had this problem before but thought i would somehow solve
itself alone)

THEN I surfed on the troubleshooting section of the installshield, I've
tried everything, i finally attempted to (re)install the version 8 but
I couldnīt, because the Windows Installer service wouldn't work: an
alert message told me that WI couldn't be started because I was
probably in safe mode (i was not)

THEN I tracked the problem down to the Windows Installer, and tried to
fix it starting it manually
THEN I was forced to face the WI error 997 (overlapped I/O operation is
in progress...)

THEN I searched over the Windows Installer troubleshooting forums and I
found somewhere around here some ways to repair this issue: typing
msiexec /unregister and then msiexec /regserver. When I try to run this
last command, a message dialog appear saying "Un suceso no pudo invocar
ninguno de los suscriptores". I'm not sure how to translate that in
english. I found it related to this:

support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315346

a website that is in fact incomplete and gave me no solution at all...
does anyone have a clue? do I have to reinstall Windows?

Thanks for your time,
Santiago

You might actually have better luck here:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=792

Although at this point, you probably also should use the Installer
Cleanup Utility from the link in Pete A's post.
