View Full Version : Firewall on ??

Hi
---
I want to verify that my Microsoft Firewall is on!!!

When I run the Hijackthis tool It claims that "No active firewall was
found..." (see attachment).

But on "Windows firewall" the status is "on (recommended)" (see attachment).

Hijackthis people claims that "The meaning of HijackThis is that no active
firewall was found on your system."

Could you give me some advice ???

Hello, I've never used "Hijackthis", I assume this is an application, right?
You might want to try an external scan instead of a local one. In external, I
mean find a website (software firewall websites usually have this feature)
that scans your PC from their server.

It will scan your PC for open ports, a firewall that is working blocks the
connections to the ports unless you've configured it otherwise.

A free scanner is for example the Security Scan from Sygate which you can
find here: http://scan.sygatetech.com/

Included steve shattuck respond:
First of all, posting a 68KB picture that adds NOTHING to your queestion
doesn't show much respect for people without broadband connections or worse
are charged on a time basis for Internet access as many are outside the USA.

A much better approach would be to use an external program over the Internet
that will not only tells you if the firewall is turned on, but just how
effective it is. One of the best security-related sites is
http://www.grc.com/default.htm and then run the Shields Up! security check
program. While you're there look at some of the other security and file
utilities that Gibson Research offers.
