My mother had the same problem with her computer. To fix
this problem i removed the harddrive and placed it in my
personal computer. Windows XP will automatically detect
the new Hard-Drive and install it as a slave. However make
sure the hard drive you are installing and the computers
original hard drive are both set to cable select (it most-
likely already is if not read label on hard drive for
correct jumper setting). Once you have the files use your
recovery CD's and format. I found this was the only way
around the error that others may know better ways but give
it a try.
Hope I helped if you have questions e-mail me
