I’m running Vista Beta 2 Build 5384 and I’m unable to install Windows
Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger)
I’ve attempted to install Windows Messenger 5.1 (5.1.0639) and Windows
Messenger 5.1 (5.1.0701) and they both display the same error message.

If I start the installer and get the welcome screen, I click Next, I then
accept the EULA after a few seconds Windows Vista’s User Account Control
(UAC) pops up asking if I wish to Canel or Allow this application to access
my computer, so I click on Allow.

Next I get the message “Windows Messenger 5.1 was not installed – This
installation was interrupted. No changes were made to your computer system.
Please try running this installation again”
If I retry the install I get the exact same error.

I need to be able to use Windows Messenger, as opposed to MSN Messenger or
Windows Live Messenger due to the ability of Windows Messenger allowing me to
use the Exchange Server as an IM server and thus communicate with other
members of our company.

Greetings,

Did you read the post? They need Exchange IM capability.

Just to let everyone know , I also posted this question over in the Windows
Vista General Discussion area where Andre Da Costa [Extended64] answered my
question.

"Try disabling UAC then install Windows Messenger, click Start > All Programs
> Accessories > Run > type in MSCONFIG > OK > Tools (tab) > scroll down >
select "Disable UAP" > Launch > close command prompt > restart system and
try the install again."

This sorted out the problem and I'm now able to use Windows Messenger on
Vista without any problems.

I got it to install!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First you need to run Windows Explorer in adminstrative mode.
right click .. Run as administrator

Then goto the messenger.msi file and right click the file and select
properties.

Then on the General Tab notice at the bottom...

Click the unblock button.
Click OK.

Now double click the messenger.msi and install.
