HI
My system now takes just over 2 minutes to boot and then
the screen freezes before re-drawing (???) the desktop.
It used to load in 40 seconds. Is it because I am using
significantly more space on my hard disk? If so what's
the point in having a 20 gig HD if you can't pass 15? I
realise that these days, 20 gig is "nothing" so don't
laugh. Also the bulk of my storage is video files (from
tv) and after compression, will be burned.

Specs:
Vaio fx503 laptop purchased (new) Spring 2002
xp with all updates from Windows
2 x 256 Ram (one installed by me)
PIII 1.0Ghz (runs at 993 mhz)

Am I missing any details?

I have checked which progs are starting up in msconfig,
and reduced it to the bare minimum.
I have eliminated spyware/adware with AdAware software.
I have checked Help but it led me to clicking a button
that doesn't exist (msconfig, normal, advanced.) i don't
have an advanced button.

Please email your help.
Thanks Ryan

Hi Ryan.

Was it still booting up in 40 seconds after you had installed the
additional RAM? Sometimes adding RAM causes the machine to slow down
because of the two RAM modules not being absolutely identical.

How about your antivirus? Which one are you using? Is it fully up to
date?

Good luck
