RegOpenKeyEx:Handle is invalid ERROR

I am receiving an error when I click on properties for
any file, program etc. I receive the following error:
RegOpenKeyEx:Handle is invalid
What is wrong and how should I correct?

Try a System File Check. Start>Run type: sfc /scannow Have
your WinXPcd in the cdrom drive.
