whenever i log into my XP machine, it is unbelieveably
slow (it didnt always do that. not until one time i shut
down the computer improperly...if that tells you
anything). task manager sez that the cpui usage is at
100%, which would explain the slowness. i found one
process... "System" with the user "System" which
continually took up all the free cpu space. i closed it,
and then immediately the computer functions normally
(almost...) and a new process with the same name seems to
be running, only with reasonable cpu usage. but then no
audio works. when i start one particular audio program
(fruityloops), it says: "Couldn't create the direct sound
main object." ive already installed the patch for
msblaster. ive also searched the registry for any keys
regarding msblaster. i also have looked in all the autorun
locations in the registry for anything called msblaster.
ive looked in the system32 directory in windows for
anything. ive searched the entire harddrive. i dont think
its that. whenever i reboot, it does the same thing: the
sluggishness... i close the program... then no sound.

PLEASE HELP!
thank you!

Try System File Checker.

From the Start Menu>Run... type
sfc /?
for usage and syntax notes.

Use
sfc /scannow
and have your Windows XP CD-ROM to hand.

Martin.
