There are times when I try to play an AVI file I downloaded from the
net. If the file is defective my system seems to go into an unstable
mode once I enter Windows Explorer. My disk drive just goes crazy and
will not stop churning. I can't figure out whats going on. It just
churns and churns.
Also, I use Zone Alarm and I notice that everytime I bring up the
median player the player tries to access the internet. Zone Alarm
blocks it but why does Microsoft Median Player need to access the Net
at all?

Normal, it is searching for the correct codec for the file type being
played.
You should permit.
