What is the shortcut to close all windows at once?

I have an icon on the Task Bar which is "Show Desktop". Minimizes
everything and does what it says ... shows desktop. Windows are not
closed. Sorry, but I can't remember how I put that icon there (or even
if I put it there).

Another way is to logout.

May be another way, but I'm not aware.

Do you actually want to close all windows that are open
or just minimise them to the task bar ??

If you just want to see the desktop, it's Windows Key-D.
