Synaptics wnts to install every time I start my laptop

Every time I start my HP laptop, I get this set up helper
for Synaptics Touchpad. My touchpad is working fine and
always has. When I try to go forward with the install,
the wizard tells me that this version of the program is
for Win 98 and goes back to my normal desktop. I am
using Win XP BTW. I deleted the program from my hard
drive yet I keep getting this wizard. Can anyone help?
