Re-open windows @ full screen

When I open a new window, it is usually in a restored
state. I would like to know how to make it stay at the
maximize position even after closing. I was shown this
once before but I can not remember how to do it. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeanette.

Maximized window sizes will not be kept. Drag the window to almost
full-size with the mouse and press CTRL while you close it.
