Your system restore service takes up 10% by default.
If you have hibernation enabled it takes up the amount of physical memory
you have.
Your recycle bin takes up 10% by default.
Your temp internet files take up 10% by default.
Your pagefile uses about 1 1/2 times your physical memory by default

Given that you said your harddrive is 10GB we can logically calculate what
is being used up:

3GB + amount of your physical memory and pagefile

You can change the size of these:

1. Go to your system control panel applet. Then go to the System restore
tab and adjust the slider to change the amount of space used.

2. Go to your internet options control panel applet. Under the "General"
tab click the "Settings" button, adjust the slider to change the amount of
space allowed for Temporary Internet Files. I recommend 20 to 80MB

3. Right click your recycle bin and select "Properties" Move the slider
down to where you want it.

4. Go to your Power Options control panel applet and go to the "Hibernate"
tab. Uncheck Enable hibernation, if you don't want to use it.

5. Leave the pagefile alone.

You should free up alot of space.
