and cant get rid of ICQ registry pop-ups. I have
instructions to turn off the messenger pop-ups. When I try
to disable it- I get an access error denied, must log on
as administrator- I dont know how? It doesnt give me that
option and I cant type it in? Can someone hel? I want to
get rid of icq as well and that annoying instant messenger

computer and really have all but stopped because the pop
ups are driving me nuts.. No one can tell me how to log in
as admin. I never have before?

If you are running XP Home, you can only log in as administrator in safe
mode. Restart the computer and press F8 as it boots up. Select Safe
Mode and you should then see an Administrator log in.

Once you are in safe mode as administrator, you probably want to change
your account settings to have administrator privileges. Go to
Start/Control Panel/User Accounts, select your account name, then choose
"change the account type".

sorry but there's more than just one way to log on as admin. in windows XP ... for starters at the welcom screen ( the one before you get into the desktop ) press and hold crtl+alt then tap del twice ... it will bring up a user logon screen as it does in windows nt etc... just make sure that the user name says Administrator and in the password field , leave it blank then hit enter ... there you're logged on as the admin. ! another way is to :
Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ SpecialAccounts \ UserList \
Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New > DWORD Value
Name the new value Administrator
Double-click this new value, and enter 1 as it's Value data
Close the registry editor
Reboot...and voila!!! ...

... now you will see the admin. account , as an option to select at the welcom screen , everytime you power the computer up !

hope that helps out a little more than just going through safe mode which has only limited abilities !
