when I first tried to play a DVD on my new computer it worked just fine, but
recently i have been getting messages that say that the DVD can't play
because I need to adjust my display settings. I have changed the settings
according to what the message's instructions but it still doesn't work. I've
tried other media players and one of them told me that 'DirectX is not
supported'. With windows media player, the sound plays but there is no
picture. I have no idea what to do now. I really need some help, it would be
greatly appreciated.

Reinstall your DVD decoding software, usually either PowerDVD or WinDVD,
whichever came with the PC. Look in the manual for instructions on how to
reinstall an individual application.
