I am running a xp pro system on a 667mhz celeron
processor. It is socket 370. Understandebly, it lags
when i try to do to much stuff at once. My question is
that I have a case from a system that I used to have that
still has it's 1.2 ghz celeron processor in it. Can I
put the 1.2 in my system now, and if so, would there be
any additional steps besides just putting the processor
in and starting the system up. Thank you very much in
advance for any help,
Rob

Hi, Rob.
That's a motherboard question, not a Windows question. There are all sorts
of questions to be asked, such as form factor (slot or socket), FSB speed,
cooling, jumpers, BIOS settings, etc. Once you get those all cleared up and
get your hardware working with the new processor, then WinXP should "just
work" with it. It should detect the new CPU and adjust automatically.
Now, if you replace the motherboard, that's a whole different ball of wax!
That would come with a new chipset, new IDE controller, and who knows what
other new components. You most likely would need to do an in-place upgrade
(see KB article 315341) to make that transition.
What make and model is your motherboard or computer?
