There could be a wide variety of reasons, why
WindowsUpdate isn't working for you. Assuming you have
a legal copy of Windows XP, try the following.
One thing you might like to try is to
visit C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate
"WindowsUpdate" folder is usually hidden. You will need
to unhide that within Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder
Options, View - Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Now within the WindowsUpdate Folder you will see another
folder called V4. Rename the V4 folder to say, V4OLD.
Now, close down Windows Explorer and relaunch Windows
Update. Windows Update with re-create the V4 folder and
should download new files to your machine, this should
fix any corruption of the WindowsUpdate folder.
