We have a Compaq EVO.
Recently we did a full restore due to serious virus
infection.
Now when the system comes up there is a process running
called starteak.exe which consumes 99% of CPU time.

Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?

Hello

The problems relates the the starteak process which is related to the
Keyboard Smart Buttons, which seem be able to be upset by pretty much
anything.. (including the weather I reckon !!!) The problem appears
to be with Microsoft Background Intelli Transfer, (starteak makes it
hang), below a link for the Microsoft patch to this prob, but I've not
tried it yet, let me know if it works. The annoyances website has
loads of links to things ppl have tried. I tried the compact patch
but that didn't work for me...

Microsoft Patch for this problem, but I haven't tried that yet..

The Compact patch seems to work for some people, not me though.

tips

Hope some of this help you out.
