2 weeks ago I realized that my mother's home computer
contained the virus sobig. I logged onto Microsoft,
downloaded the fix, and preformed the necessary
maintanence. Since then, we have experienced major
technical difficulties. problem #1. Certain microsoft
programs, i.e. Microsoft Word seem to be missing
essential executes, as the program will shut down without
command, and therefore loose all data contained therein.
problem #2. System will preform a shut down by count
down; usually while on the internet, the program freezes
and when you try to shut explorer down by cntl, alt,
delete it shut all programs down through a count down
box. The system will restart automatically, but all
unsaved data is gone. problem #3. What is virtual memory
minimum too low? This situation has caused me to believe
that I may have to reformat my mother's hard drive and
start from scratch; is this necessary, or are there any
other maintenance tools I could preform. Please respond
in lamens so that I may understand and fix the problem
asap.

With that many problems I would format and start over.
