I'm attempting to open up an .avi file in Movie Maker, but the program says
that the codec required isn't installed on my computer. I can watch the video
on DivX, and I've installed carious codec programs, but I can't seem to
import the video to Movie Maker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Divx AVI videos don't work well if at all in Movie Maker.
You could convert them to another AVI compression codec or a WMV.

I went to the site and used downloaded Windows Media Encoder, but now it's
telling me that one or more codecs required to open the file can't be found.
Now what?

You need to download the Divx codec used to create the clip.
Use GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) to see what codec was used.
Then check this site out for the proper codec:
