View Full Version : Event ID 26, App. failed to initialize

Window title: userinit.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.
This also happens with other executables and Windows
utilities.
This specific one happens on startup, and then I have to
go to Task Manager and run a new task (explorer.exe) to
fully boot into Windows.
I am almost dead positive it is from a virus that I had
to manually remove as Symantec, PC Cillin, and McAfee did
not pick it up at all. This virus had a second explorer
run (Explorer2.exe) and also created bogus files in the
\Windows directory. Also created new registry keys (in
Run) and added itself to startup.
Thanks in advance for any info

The Event Error 26 usually is associated with a critical Service that failed
to start. Go to Start/Run, type: eventvwr.msc and press OK. Look in the
Event Viewer for any recent red X error messages that coincide with the
time of this error. Double click the error to view the details. You can
click the small double page text icon to copy the error details and paste
them back in a reply here.

Ed, you might just be better off doing a format and clean install.

The Event ID 26 that coincides with time of error inside
the viewer is an Information log. These are the errors
that happen at the identical time:
Event ID 7023, Source: Service Control Manager: The
Windows Image Acquisition service terminated with the
following error: Invalid access to memory location.
Event ID 10010, Source: Service Control Manager: The
server {A1F4E726-8CF1-11D1-BF92-0060081ED811} did not
register with DCOM within the required timeout.
Those are the only ones that coincide with the exact
time. If all else fails then I am going with the format
and clean install. Multiple partitions are a great
thing, I'm glad I have anything important on a separate
one from the OS.
Thank you both very much for the input.
