microsoft passport problem

I have a Dell 4550 , 6 mths old . Any programs , sites
using the passport login are usless to me . I am
registered properly and it always lets me in . Problem is
the first screen comes up blank/white and windows says it
is "done" in the lower left corner of the first
window/screen . That is as far as I get . I am desperate
at this point , ready to sell or give away this useless
solitare machine and buy an apple .
Any help will save the life of one defensless computer as
I am quite ready to use it for target practice .
