Defrag keeps crashing

Hi, I'm hoping you would be able to help me, as no one
else has answers for me.
When I defrag me laptop, after about 5-10 min it will
crash, & I wil have to do a hard reboot. All my power
settings are to always on, & no screen savers are
running. If I keep scrolling with my mouse pad it will
run, but eventually crashes at about 95%, or my hand gets
tired. I have downloaded all the latest patches & so on
from microsoft update, &, as far as I can remember, I
didn't have this prob till the update, But that can't be
the problem, can it?
Please help.

Try defragging in safe mode. Hold F8 on startup and from the Menu select
safe mode.
