View Full Version : ntbackup fails when creating a volume shadow copy

I am trying to make a full backup of my Windows XP
Professional machine with NTBACKUP. Each time I try to run
it I get the same error:

"Error returned while creating the volume shadow
copy:80042301"

I have no idea why I cannot create the backup. I am trying
to backup the entire information to a different local hard
drive so I can re-install Windows XP. I have done this
before without a problem when I upgraded my computer to a
larger hard drive but this is the first time I try since
then.

Any idea why it is not working?

Thanks,

Pablo

Hi,

Can you make sure that your COM+ Event System service is not disabled?
(look in services.msc). Also, check if this service is currently
running on your machine.

Also, can you run the following command: "REG.EXE QUERY
HKLM\System\Setup" and cut & paste the output in your reply.

Thanks, Adi
