sound suspiciously like a virus. if you have a the norton
av disk, you can boot to it and it will run a virus scan
before the OS loads...

though, I have norton system works 2000 nd it cannot scan
the NTFS disk I have - so you may need a more recent
version, or make sure it says it can scan NTFS
