problems after updating xp

This morning I updated my xp (home edition) including the
pack 1. Then when I restarted the laptop(compaq presario
700), it sometimes froze and I had to shut it down to
restart it. Has anyone seen this problem before? Thanks a lot!

Yes, I've had exactly that problem. I should warn you that my
computer froze during the uninstallation process and then wouldn't
reboot - I ended up having to reinstall XP.

I don't know of any solution yet (and Compaq seem reluctant to help).
Incidentally, do you have any extra memory installed? My computer
seemed to freeze more often with my 256MB expansion memory card
installed and I'm wondering if this is related.
