Running a Dell Dimension 4400 ~ 1 =BD yrs old. Have=20
developed all kinds of problems since migrating from dial-
up to cable modem and what I thought was originally a=20
problem with my cnet ethernet adapter I think turns out to=20
be a problem with my cable modems ethernet port-since I=20
couldn't get it to work with my mac either. I did change=20
my ethernet card to a netgear. Prior to this I had a few=20
crashes where internet explorer would not open, but on=20
rebooting seemed to work fine. It did crash after=20
installing the card the first time and then loaded=20
properly the second time I started up. Anyway my computer=20
now refuses to open internet explorer or my Norton=20
antivirus and once I try either of these it refuses to=20
shut down. Anyway at this point I have tried system=20
restore, check disk, norton disk doctor/windoc to no=20
avail. I'm considering reinitializing-I do have a backup=20
of my data. 2 questions... Should I reinstall the sytem=20
software first and give that a try or should I just bite=20
the bullet and reinitialize. If I do either of these=20
should I first remove the new netgear card and go back to=20
the original? Thanks
