system restore

My computer keeps freezing up. I want to use the system
restore to go back a few months to before I started
having these problems. System restore won't let me go
back any further than August. Any suggestions?

I thought if I deleted programs from the computer that
might help eliminate the problem if it's a software
problem but every time I bring up the add/remove window,
that window freezes and won't let me delete anything.
I'm using Presario 700Z laptop.
I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me.
