PrtScdidn't work [Archive]

I am unable to make a print screen. Here is a step-by-step reply of what I
did, please advise where I went off track.

Entered Start > Programs >Microsoft Virtual PC > Settings and a window
popped-up showing Settings for the active virtual machine
Simultaneously pressed Alt, PrtSc keys
Clicked on Desktop shortcut to enter Wordpad and positioned curosor in this
document
Pressed the PrtSc key, nothing happened
Clicked Edit > Paste, nothing happened

Why didn't the procedure work?

I do no comprehend you answer.

I think I need to clear memory so when I give the Alt PrtSc command an image
of the contents of the dispaly can be stored in memory. Now when I go to a
word document nothing comes-out.

For some reason, the Alt PrtSc command is not working on my notebook.

Why did you hit PrtSc a second time? Start|Run|clipbrd.exe to see what was
copied.

I ran Start|Run|Clipbrd.exe and then deleted what was displayed. My clipboard
memory is now empty. Thank you for telling me how to do that. I appreciate
it.

I press Start|Programs|Microsoft Virtual Machine > A Window opens and I
select Settings, a list is displayed, I would like to capture it to my
clipboaard memory so I simultaneously hold down the ALT, PrtSc keys. Next I
run clibrd and nothing is there.

I thought I would see the contents of my display screen when I pressed Alt
PrS. Why wasn't the screen captured to clipboard memory?

Sounds like you're trying to capture an image inside the virtual machine to
the outside. I think I'd paste to a document inside VPC but try asking them
here. x-posted to:public.virtualpc

What did you expect to happen? This doesn't paste the image. When you press
the PrtScrn key the second time, you clear the original image in the
clipboard, and put a new image in. This time, since you didn't also hold
down the Alt key, you get the entire screen, not just the active window

Edit | Paste (or Ctrl-V) does paste the image, but not into WordPad.

Because WordPard is basically a glorified text editor, with only very
primitive graphics facilities. Try pasting it into Paint or a word processor
like Microsoft Word or WordPerfect.

It appears to me, on my machineit does not.

SBS (Step-by-Step):
1. I enter Start|Programs|itunes > displays iTunes menu.
2. I hold down Alt PrtSc keys
3. I enter Start|Run|clipbrd.exe > nothing is displayed in the clipboard

What do I need to do in order to capture the screen to the clipboard, or any
part of it?

How can I see what has ben capture in the clipboard?

How can I paste the contents of the clipboard into Wordpad?

I suggest try this first:

1) Press printScrn button when you are in the sceen you want to
capture; (forget about Alt-PrintScrn button for now!)
2) Now open Wordpad
3) Now press Cntrl-V simultaneously (this is Cntrl key + V key)

Let us know if this works.

Then you can try Alt-PrintScrn to get the target/active window captured.

So you're saying the Clipbrd doesn't work at all locally? If that's the case

Hi Dave,

I simultaneously pressed Alt and PrtSc . Positioned cursor in a Word doc and
right clicked Paste was empty.

Did you open the Word doc BEFORE you did the Alt-Printscreen?
