start up

I am having an external USBmodem.If it is off when XP
starts then I cannot connect unless reboot with the modem
poweron.

Anyway to have the modem off when startup and for xp to
identify when i want to go online.

Start->run->devmgmt.msc. Click anywhere in the main window to give it focus.
You'll then see a computer looking icon with a magnifying glass appear in
the tool bar. Hit that and you're modem will reappear after a few seconds.
