View Full Version : I think I've screwed my unit up again!!! Help!

1. I did something to my Windows XP professional's
ability to function correctly: I can't get the machine to
shut down, only hibernate. I can't find my recycle bin; I
have a cordless mouse that started acting wildly over the
weekend; it's as if I can't control it
2. I'm assuming that I eliminated some files that
preclude the computer from operating correctly. I thought
that i could resolve my problem by uninstalling Windows
XP, but the remove screen said that I can't unload it for
some reason.
3. When I switch to Internet Explorer, the main sc reen
shows Netscape which I don't want, but I can't delete.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

What did you do? Did it ever work? You say "again". Has this happened
before? Why? What did you do then to break it? What did you do then to
fix it? What have you recently changed?

Where have you looked? It should be on desktop, but maybe it
disappeared for some unknown reason. Is it not the bottom folder on
Windows Explorer? Why are you looking for it? What is the problem you
are trying to fix?

Cordless mice sometimes do this. I've heard that some units are flawed
which need to be exchanged with manufacturer. You might try simply to
un-install the software, then re-install it. You also might try to
simply avoid trying to debug this and go back to a wired mouse.

What files did you remove? What folders were you in? My hunch is that
unless you were delving into deep areas of the system, this is not what
happened. It's hard to delete these important files unless done
deliberabely.

Un-install and re-install is a very drastic act. Don't do unless really
required.

You say "can't delete". What are you trying to delete? An icon on the
desktop? Or is this just what web page is displayed?
This could be caused simply that your "homeP pages is set to go to
www.netscape.com (or something like that). What is the URL when you see
this, and what is your homepage set for?

Check Control Panel> Power Options. On the Advanced page are some
settings that change the behavior of the power button and the sleep
button. Perhaps you changed something here?
