windows requires some disc space while you burn a cd but you gain it back
when it is done. i have a very small hard drive and i was burning something
and my computer froze. now i have lost the temporary space while burning the
disc. i used the support on the computer but that just helped change the
drive where the info is burned too. is there any way i can get those few GBs
back instead of formatting?

Disc Cleanup should work.

Of course the real solution is to get a secondary hard drive.... a large
one.
