I somehow turned off the "automatic updates" feature that
Windows XP makes available. Now I have 37 updates that
Windows says I should install. Some of them are dated
back to 2002. Should I go ahead and install all of them,
or just the most recent updates?

Gail;
Install ALL Critical Updates.
Install Service Pack first and by itself if not already installed.
Then install other Critical updates no more than 4 at a time.
