View Full Version : XP weirdness

Hi Folks,

I'm new to Usenet, so plase bear with me if I'm being annoying.

I'm running XP Pro SP2 on an Athlon 1.4Ghz chip with 256 Mb of RAM.
(Yeah, I know I'm cutting it fine). The computer is stand alone (not
networked).

We have four log-ins, one for each member of the family.

I have two problems:

First, I can't load the XP fax utility at the same time as the
calculator. If I load one off the XP disk, it "bumps off" the other.
Weird, huh?

Can anyone tell me how to work around this?

And the other is to do with the default settings for Power Management.

In my login (administrator), I have turned off Power Management so that
I don't get screen savers, or disks and monitors turning themselves off
after specified periods of perceived "inactivity" (which seems to
include long downloads).

But I have to be logged in for this to apply. How do I get these
settings to apply earlier, at the log-in screen stage (ie before anyone
has logged in)?

Any help would be appreciated.
