I downloaded a service pack from critical updates...but I
didn't have the CD with me when prompted. Now I have
it...and when I ran updates it said I there were none.
How do I install what I have downloaded and where is it on
my computer? My installation history lists several failed
attempts but does not link me back. This is the critical
update that is a prerequisite for all other updates.

Head on over to the link below and download the install of your choice.

https://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/

You may be able to recover it from the WUTemp directory on your C drive,
created when you attempted the install.

Another alternative is to uninstall the hotfix associated with it and retry
downloading it from windows update.
