I have 2 DVD RW's. They have been installed for at least 8 months. Both
worked fine a couple days ago and for the last 8 months. In Media Player 10
the DVD doesn't show up at all. In my Computer it shows the drive but nothing
listed, as though theres nothing in the drive. When a DVD is inserted, the
lights come on for about 15 seconds and nothing happens. I have redownloaded
Power dvd, Updated all software I could think of, and updated the firmware
for the DVD rw's. I have found hundreds of post online of people having the
exact same problem but none of the solutions ever work. I fiind it hard to
beleive that both drives died at the same exact time.

By the way.... both drives play data and audio cd's like a charm, Just
nothing in the dvd category.

PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!

There are different lasers for the CD side and the DVD side. First thing
you could try is a standard optical drive cleaning kit, the kind you buy for
a CD player.

I tried that too, sorry I didnt post that. I just find it hard to believe
that both would quit playing DVD's. I usually only use the Lite On. The
Samsung has probably not been used 20 times in 8 months. I really think its
so sort of software problem within Windows but I dont know where to start.
Both drives show as DVD in My Computer.

If you have a good friend, ask them to try the drives in their PC. I don't
think it's a software problem.

You might also try physically removing one or both of the drives from the PC
and then rebooting the PC. Then shutdown again and reinstall one of them
and see if it now works.
