VIDEO DISPAIR

Hi, I hope someone can help with this problem that has occurred without any
prior warning. I have XP SP2 and a Radeon 9800SE graphics card. Yesterday
when I logged on to my PC I had a poor display which started as vertical
lines or bands and gradually deteriorated. Initially I downloaded the latest
drivers but then found through my Device Manager that the latest version was
already in the system. I physically checked the card and its connections and
they appear ok. I used a couple of utilities - windows autofix, and dxdiag in
the run box - to check my system. I found that with both I received a message
telling me that there was a Shell Hardware Detection problem and that the
video driver was not being detected. DirectDraw worked ok. Now I can only log
onto my PC in safe mode as my machine keeps loading up and then returns to
the boot screen. I'm at a loss to know what to do now to resolve the problem.
In case this is material...I recently upgraded my RAM and made every efforts
to ensure that no static was generated when I had to move my graphics card.
I'm wondering if I have inadvertently knackered [excuse the technical jargon]
my card, even though this was about two weeks ago. Heeeeelp!

Just some thoughts...

Your graphics card could be fried but there's
also a possibility that it just needs to be reseated...
might be worth a try. Couldn't hurt to check all the
connections while the case is open.

Also might be an issue with the new RAM?
