I have a system with Windows XP Home.

I would like a system that dual boots. One OS for games
and playing around, and one OS for more serious stuff
(with XP Professional) like developing web sites etc...

I plan to purchase another hard drive and install a
seperate copy of XP Professional on this.

Now, with such a dual boot system do I have to purchase a
seperate copy of Windows XP for the new bootable partition?

Can I upgrade my copy of XP home to XP Professional, then
have this single copy on each bootable partition?

Or do I have to buy a new copy of Windows XP Professional
to install on my second partition?

The Windows XP End-User License Agreement states you may
install only one (1) copy of Windows XP on one (1) computer.

If you wish to install additional copies Windows XP, you'll need to
purchase additional licenses, otherwise Product Activation will fail.
You'll then be prompted to call Microsoft to purchase a new
license so you can activate XP.

Read your Windows XP End-User License Agreement:

Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter.

It clearly states that you may only install one (1) copy
of Windows XP on just one (1) computer. You will
need a new license (Product Key) for each new
installation on a different computer.

Also, open XP's "Help and Support" and type: EULA
and click on "Questions and Answers about the
End User License Agreement".

Thanks Nicolas

Erk, does this mean I am not allowed to install (2) copies
of Windows XP on (1) computer? Seems to read like that!

Still not clear on this though, sorry!

What I have: -

Computer with Win XP Home installed.

What I want to end up with: -

One computer dual booting to two entirely distinct Win XP
installs (I will be buying another hard disk), at least
one of which I want to be Win XP Professional (but I don't
mind if they both are).

What's the best way of achieving this...

Upgrading my current copy of XP Home to XP Professional,
and installing it twice to the same machine (is this
possible?), leaving me with two XP bootable partitions.

Buying a brand new copy of XP Professional and installing
it as a seond OS (is this possible?), leaving me with one
bootable XP Home and one bootable XP Pro partitions.

er, I'll throw one in here, and upgrading my current copy
of Windows ME on my really old computer to XP Professional
and installing this as my second bootable partition?
