xp home will not start in safe mode??

hello,
im running xp home .I have 2 accounts 1 for me as administrator and 1 for my
daughter which is also administrator account .yesterday i went into safe
mode to remove a stubborn program but when i got there it showed only
administrator account and my daughters .
I clicked on the administrator account and it prompted me for a password,
but before i could type anything , it just restarted and booted normally.I
know this is not normal since i cannot do anything in safe mode . Can
someone help me figure out whats going on ?

Offhand I don't know what the problem is. I would check the logs via Event
Viewer to see if any error or warning is shown at the time that happens that
may provide a clue. You could also try using msconfig to selectively disable
startup services and processes that would be very close to Safe Mode. I
would be sure to scan for viruses and spyware using the latest definitions
for any program you scan with.
